Abstract

Macroalgae is one of the aquatic organisms that are marine biological resources. Caulerpa sp. is one type of macroalgae that has the same pigment composition as higher plants. Types of seaweed that are included in the green macroalgae group have photosynthetic pigments, namely chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b in abundance. In addition to the main pigment in the form of chlorophyll, green macroalgae also have several accessory pigments, namely carotenoids. (Hamidi, 2013). Macroalgae Caulerpa sp. has potential as a new antimicrobial drug because it contains several active compounds such as saponins and flavonoids that work as antimicrobials. The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of chlorophyll pigment from Caulerpa sp. extract, to determine chlorophyll pigment from Caulerpa sp. extract. provide antimicrobial activity against Streptococcus mutans, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans, determine the value of the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of chlorophyll pigment against Streptococcus mutans, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans. The results of this study indicate that the levels of the chlorophyll pigment extract of Caulerpa sp. is 18.23 mg/L. Extract of chlorophyll pigment from Caulerpa sp. can provide antimicrobial activity against Streptococcus mutans, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans. And the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration Value (MIC) of the chlorophyll pigment against Streptococcus mutans bacteria at a concentration of 12.5%, against Staphylococcus aureus at a concentration of 50%, and against the fungus Candida albicans at a concentration of 25%.
