Abstract

the nature of invasion, metastatis and quite anaplastic, there are two kind of cancer known as carcinoma and sarcoma. Sarang semut are epiphytic plant which sticking on the oak tree. People in papua are using sarang semut as treatment for long overdue. It potentially and interesting people as traditional medicine. This study aims at cytotoxic effect butanol extract of sarang semut (Mermeccodia Erinaceae Bee.) on helah cells and verro cells,by using DMEM media. The various concentration used were 750 ppm, 500 ppm, 250 ppm, 125 ppm, 16,5 ppm, and 13,25 ppm. The methods used is MTT method by observing the color intensity of the purple formazan crystals were read by ELISA reader at a wavelength of 595 nm, is the rapid, sensitive and most common in use in testing in vitro. Cytotoxic effect butanol fraction of 80% ethanol extract sarang semut (Mermeccodia Erinaceae Becc.) with hela cells IC50 values obtained at 775,96 ppm and the cell verro of 692,16 ppm. IC50 values between 30-1000ppm indicate that compounds contained in Sarang semut (Mermeccodia Erinaceae Bee.) has cytotoxic activity.
