Abstract

Hypertension and diabetes patients who undergo chronic hemodialysis are at a greater risk of hepatitis C (HCV) infection due to the repeated use of vascular. In dialysis, there are three major risk factors affecting the transmission of HCV infection namely: blood transfusion history, kidney transplants history, and duration of hemodialysis. The prevalence of HCV in hemodialysis patients ranges from 34.88%. This study aims to analyze HCV in hemodialysis environment. This study is a prospective longitudinal study, with case control design, and the data are obtained from the patients’ medical records on hemodialysis in the Medical Record Unit of Jakarta Islamic Hospital (RSIJ) on the period of February 1 to April 30, 2016. From the 172 patients’ medical records obtained, 60 patients’ medical records meet the inclusion criteria. There are 6 (6.5%) Diabetes patients infected with HCV, 16 (26.6%) Hypertension patients infected with HCV, 19 (31.6%) Diabetes patients infected with HCV, and 21 (18.7%) Hypertension patients with Diabetes, and there are no co-infected patients. The use of Losartan is amounted to 16 (26.6%) patients, Ribavirin 19 (31.6%) patients, and Losartan with Ribavirin 25 (41.6%) patients. Patients infected with HCV are mainly female compare to male. More infections are seen in blood transfusions patients. The mean time of infected hemodialysis patients is bigger than mean time of non-infected patients and the mean time of hemodialysis of all patients. Patients infected with HCV have a bigger mean time than the mean time of patients who are not infected. The prevalence of HCV in chronic hemodialysis patients on hemodialysis Unit of RSIJ Jakarta is 6.5%, the prevalence of hypertension infected with HCV is 26.6%, the prevalence of diabetes infected with HCV is 31.6% of HCV infected, and 18.7% Diabetic Patients with HCV Hypertension. More female patients infected with HCV are the patients with more blood transfusions history infected. The mean time of hemodialysis patients infected is longer than the patients who are not infected. Keywords: Hemodialysis, hepatitis C (HCV), diabetes, hypertension, losartan, ribavirin
