Abstract

Panu or ringworm is a universal disease. Panu or Pityriasis versicolor is a superficial fungal infection of the skin caused by Malassezia furfur. Panu can be treated with antifungal drugs imidazole. One of the natural ingredients that are traditionally can treat skin diseases are kirinyuh (Chromolaena odorata) leaves because it contains tannins, saponins, flavonoids, essential oils, alkaloids which have antifungal activity. This study aims to determine the ability of kirinyuh leaves (Chromolaena odorata) extracted with ethanol 70% has the activity against Malassezia fufur (ATCC 14521) fungus. The method used is a dilution method to determine the antifungal activity of 70% ethanol extract of kirinyuh leaves (Chromolaena odorata). To determine the activity against Malassezia furfur, the study conducted in 5 types concentration of 70% ethanol extract of kirinyuh (Chromolaena odorata) leaves, which are 100% (v/v), 75% (v/v), 50% (v/v), 25% (v/v), 12,5% (v/v), the positive control contains ketoconazole 2%, negative control contains sterile distilled water. Media used was Saboraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) which added olive oil. Incubation was carried out at 370 C for 3 days. Observations made by looking at the growth of fungal colonies on the surface of the media. The results showed that there was no fungal growth both on the concentration of 100% extract (v/v) and the smallest concentration of 12,5% (v/v).
